Soy Wax Melts FAQ / CARE

What is a wax melt?
Wax melts are a wickless, meltable and fragrant wax that can be heated in a wax warmer.  There is no flame. Fragrance loads in melt form are usually higher than candles (well in Mum Bun Scrunchies case anyway) and are easy to change out to switch up home fragrance! Our wax melts are of the highest quality & can last 8-12 hours or more per 2-3 cubes dependent upon the fragrance & heat source. You’ll know when it is time to remove or add a new melt when your melted wax has lost its scent.
Why Melts over candles?
Mum Bun Scrunchies will always side with Wax Melts as we all have young children. We prefer them as they’re safer, no flame and no glass to break, healthier because there is no soot, easier to store because they’re quite small, and much cheaper. With wax melts it’s also easy to blend scents to create your own fragrances – just put one or two cubes of each scent into the warmer and there you go, your own creations!
How often are your restocks?
Anything in our standard range is usually restocked within a few days if sold out – Any items from our Limited-Edition Range, are very rarely restocked, as we like to bring in new fragrances each time around.
What do I Need to know about burning or melting my wax?
Please remember – Although these melts look and smell delicious, they are not edible.
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Remove packaging before use, use only in tea-light warmers or electric warmers that have been approved for wax melts. Read and follow all instructions provided with your warmer before use. Use only in well ventilated areas away from flammable materials & draughts. Do NOT add water. Do NOT melt in non-approved appliances.  Do not move the burner whilst the melt is burning. Please do not leave a burning flame unattended.
How often should I change it?
2-3 Cubes will warm in an electric warmer with a strong scent throw ranging anywhere from 8-12 hours, this is all dependant on the scent, size of your wax melt, and whether you’re burning your wax melt continuously or in intervals. The type of warmer you are using can affect the time as well. The hotter your wax gets, the more intense your scent will be, but it will have a corresponding shorter time for scent release. Similarly, if you have a wax warmer that is colder in terms of warming, it will release a milder hot throw, but the scent will last for a longer period.
Once you can no longer smell the fragrance it is time to change your wax. See below for our recommendations on changing your wax!
How do you change out wax?
We find the easiest, quickest and most effective way with the least amount of wear and tear to your warmer is to drop a few cotton balls into the melted wax and allow to soak it up, this also allows you to remove excess glitter or mica that may have accumulated at the bottom of the dish. Alternatively, you can allow your warmer to cool, place the dish in the freezer for around an hour, then pop the wax straight out.
Why does my wax melt have smoke/vapour coming off it?
Although none of our products can actually emit smoke, sometimes when using wax melts, you may see vapour coming from the wax. This is normal and is in fact the scent being released from the wax. Our products are highly scented as we use the maximum amount of scent that the wax will hold. This is more common when using a tealight burner – as the wax reaches a higher temperature.
* Please do not be alarmed by the sight of any scent vapour – It is normal and will not affect the product nor will it have any effect on the use.
* Should you in fact see smoke – This is likely due to the tealight you are using. Most tealights can give off black smoke and soot on surfaces.
How should I store my wax melts?
The way you store your wax melts can directly affect their quality, duration and scent throw. To ensure that you get the most out of your wax melts and their shelf life, make sure you store your wax melts in a cool, dark place. Refrain from exposing your melts to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this exposure to heat will begin to affect the fragrance in the melts.
Wherever you choose to store your melts, make sure to move your older melts to the front of your wax melt stash so you remember to use those first.
How many squares should I use?
We recommend starting with two cubes and work from there. Two is usually enough, although some people do use more, and that’s okay too! More cubes may last a little longer since the wax pool is deeper, so it doesn’t burn off as quickly.
Damaged in transit?
Sadly, we cannot guarantee that the melts will not be damaged in transit due to their delicate nature. We do our best to package your order well and try to eliminate the risk of damage by using protective packaging, but we cannot be held responsible for this after it is in Australia Posts hands.
Due to this, we do not offer refunds for damaged melts.
In the unfortunate event that your wax melts arrived cracked or broken, please do not worry, the bars are to be broken into pieces to burn, so any breakage during delivery will NOT impact the quality of your melts.
We also only offer shipping of our Soy Wax Melts on Monday’s & Tuesdays during the warmer months. This is to ensure your melts are not sitting in heat for long periods of time waiting to be delivered. Please keep this in mind when ordering
